Place of origin:

The boerboel mastiff has its origin in South Africa. It started with The european settlers brought different guard dogs to protect
from savages and wild animals. This variety of genes where thoroghly mixed
and bred towards what we have today. See boerboel history for more

Age:
Despite the large size the Boerboel can get really old. 12 years and older is normal.

Puppys:
Our Phoebe's mother got 3 rounds of aprox. 15 puppies. It is quite normal to get many puppies.

Intelligense:
It is a very intelligent guard/working dog, and it needs to work with it's head.

Hight:
60-70 cm (23 - 27 in) for males, bitches proportionally smaller

Weight:
50 - 80 kg. (110 to 175 lbs) males, bitches proportionally lighter

Attitude to strangers:
The Boerboel Mastiff is reserved towards strangers.

Coat type:
A very short and dense fur. Some dogs like our old Nike has a self cleaning special none smelling fur. I have never seen this type of fur before.

They loose some hair during spring.

Coat maintenance is very easy. They just need a good brushing some times and a good bath if needed.

Colors:
The boerboel comes in Brown, Red, Brindle, Fawn, Yellow, Powder.

Temperament
Boerboel Mastiff - She loves the snowBoerboel Mastiffs are big of sizes and they are very intelligent and energetic although they can be quite lazy. The Boerboel Mastiff does not need a lot of exercise if they have a big garden, they will patrol the territory as they are extremely protective of their family and territory.

Obedience training is very importent as they are a headstrong and powerful breed.

Socializing your boerboel when they are young is also very important, let them meet adult, children and other animals, especially other dogs and new situations.

A boerboel mastiff can be a handful and prospective owners must know that it takes lot of commitment in time and energy to raise a boerboel so it is well behaved in order to be a happy member of your family. But it is all worth it. Boerboel Mastiff is the most protective dog breed without being aggressive and will not hesitate to defend you to the death.

The breed Boerboel Mastiff is not the right breed for first time owners because of their strong protective instinct, intelligence, large size, physical strength and their stubbornness.

Although I would not want any other breed then Boerboel Mastiff.
